Why ingredient-specific conversions
Most measurement converters treat a cup as a fixed weight, which only works for water. In reality, a cup of flour, a cup of sugar, and a cup of honey all weigh different amounts because their densities differ. This site's converter looks up each ingredient's actual density before converting to or from grams and ounces, instead of applying one generic factor to everything.
Where the data comes from
Ingredient density figures are sourced from public reference material such as USDA data and established baking references, and are labeled with their source in the underlying data file. Values are approximate and intended for everyday home cooking, not laboratory precision.
